The Thursday parade, which involved an eastern march on Route 6, coincided with the start of the fire department's annual carnival, an event that takes place on the grounds of its main firehouse. The carnival continues through this coming weekend.
Mahopac firefighters were joined by their crosstown counterparts from Mahopac Falls and Carmel. Carmel police and the Carmel Volunteer Ambulance Corps also participated.
Neighboring fire departments from across Putnam County were represented at the parade. Participating firefighters came from Lake Carmel, Kent, Putnam Lake, Brewster and Putnam Valley.
Westchester County fire departments that participated included Somers, Croton Falls, Mohegan Lake, Buchanan and Montrose.
Firefighters from Fairfield County included representation from Mill Plain (Danbury) and New Fairfield.
The firefighters making the longest trip for the parade were those from the Orangetown Fire Co. No. 1, which is in the Rockland County community of South Nyack.
